Places Of Interest : Sri Badrnathji is one of the Four Dhams and is situated at an elevation of 3,133 metres guarded on wither side by the two mountain ranges known as Nar and Narayan with the towering Neelkanth Peak providing a splendid back drop. This revered spot was once carpeted with wild berries wit gave it the name Badri Van meaning Forest of Berries. Facing the temple at the bank of the Alaknanda river there is a hot water spring known as Tapt Kund. The temple opens every year in the month of April - May and closes in winter in the third week of November. Hot Water Springs : Tapt Kund and Surya Kund.The pilgrimage centre boasts of two natural hot water springs – Tapt Kund and Surya Kund. The sulphurous waters have a temperature of 55 C. A bath in these springs before visiting the Temple is believed to purify the body and soul. Panch Badris : Vishal Badri: The main Shri Badri Narayan Temple, considered very sacred. Yogathyan Badri: Located at a distance of 24 km from Badri Nath and 20 km from badrinath, this is the place where Maharaj Pandu (father of the Pandava princes) prayed to Pandukeshwar. Bhavishya Badri: This is 17 km from badrinath and is a small village. Preetha Badri: It is 17 km from badrinath at a place called Animath. Adi Shankar is believed to have worshipped Lord Badrinath here. Adi Badri: This is located at a distance of 16 km from Karnaprayag. Several temples constructed during the Gupt Dynasty are here, of which Mana Narayanan temple is considered to be the most popular one. Village Manam - Vyas Guha. Vyas Maharishi, considered, by some as the reincarnation of Vishnu, composed the Mahabharata in the caves in this village. Hence the caves are named after him as Vyas Caves. |
